Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Baseline Study for a Social Forestry Project in Indonesia
PRCF Indonesia is working with a group of Village Forests in Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan, to develop a project that will enable the village communities to access results-based finance for protection and restoration of more than 40,000 ha of high conservation value forest, with management rights secured by the communities.
The project is aiming for certification by the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) Standards and hopes to access finance from Rimba Collective. As a first step in developing a CCB Project Description, TLLG provided training and technical support to PRCF Indonesia to carry out participatory activities to gather an understanding of biophysical and socioeconomic conditions in five village forests, describe local drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, and describe expected changes if effective management activities are not implemented. The technical support was funded by the USAID Green Invest Asia programme.
